30 UPLAND FARMERS GRADUATE FROM FFS

A convergence of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) held its Farmers Field School (FFS), Batch One graduation ceremony at the Municipal Hall of Barira.

On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, thirty (30) farmers from Barangay Liong, Barira, Maguindanao graduated from 16 weeks of training.

The activity aimed to improve the living standards of the Bangsamoro people in the target sites through agriculture. Specifically, it seeks to showcase and know the best seed variety that can be used in planting in upland areas for farmer-beneficiaries of the three pilot areas of Buldon, Barira, and Matanog, Maguindanao.

Funded through JICA Rice-Based Farming Technology Program under Capacity Development Project for the Bangsamoro (CDPB) was implemented since 2021, while PhilRice and MAFAR as the service provider.

Farmers underwent training of trainers, FFS, and Participatory Technology Demonstration wherein different varieties of palay has been planted; Sakilan, NSIC RC 27, Premium dinorado, Makasapi, Kiraban, and Upland dinorado.

After graduation, MAFAR and PhilRice are committed to monitoring and assisting the farmers for the next cropping season to sustain the project.
