ARBs’ KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN GINGER PRODUCTION IMPROVE AFTER TRAINING CONDUCTED BY MAFAR

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform of the BARMM, through its Agrarian Reform Sector, conducted a Technology Training on Ginger Production held at the Barangay Hall of Barangay Romongaob, South Upi, Maguindanao on November 12-14, 2020 .

The training was participated by 24 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) who were members of the Lamod-Romangaob Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organization, headed by President Ephraim C. Cabaluna.

The training intended to equip the farmers with enough knowledge and technical know-how on proper production and management of ginger both for backyard and mass production. It will help them on their livelihood, for family consumption as well as sustaining food security especially during this CoVid-19 pandemic.

Studies show that Ginger (Zingiber officinale), locally known as luya has many health benefits and important nutritional value and is one of the herbal medicines scientifically proven to be therapeutic.

Mr. Ramil M.Timpolok, HVCDP Focal Person, served as resource speaker and gave significant tips on ginger production and management. Participated by the interested and eager trainees, actual demonstrations were done to gauge the group’s understanding of the given lectures.

After the actual demonstration, the ARBs were happy each of them was given different farming tools like steel wheelbarrow, pick mattock, hard fork, rake, gardening boots, and 13 kilos of ginger tuber among others.

The cooperatives president and his members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to MAFAR Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob and his able staffs for their selfless attitude in sharing their technical expertise.

Cabaluna said the training conducted was the first ever from the BARMM and they found it so worth it because it will immensely help them as they start as a pilot cooperative in their area.
According to Rascid Alimpang, AR Technical Staff, while Agriculture focuses on all farmers their sector aspires and tries to empower the farmers under Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). “I hope that you will be able to grow your ginger and other by-products”, he added.
