FARMERS IN UPI RECEIVE BAGS OF CORN SEEDS FROM MAFAR

As planting season comes in their village, farmers in Bungcog, Upi received 200 bags of Open Pollinated Variety (OPV) corn seeds through the delivery and ceremonial distribution conducted by the MAFAR on April 28, 2020.

The bags of corn seeds benefited the same number of individual farmers in seven sitios of the village according to Barangay Chieftain Corazon Sarno Garrigues.

Akmad A. Abdullah, MAFAR Corn Program Focal Person, personally informed the group of farmers that their harvest can be a good source of food and they can also use them as their seeds for the next planting schedule.

Meanwhile, Provincial Agricultural Officer Abdulnasser K. Badawi was positive that the seeds shall be planted soonest as the rain is almost coming.

The activity complied with the instruction of Minister Mohammad S. Yacob of ensuring continued implementation of programs, projects, and activities in the communities despite the COVID-19 threat as the farmers really need assistance especially during this difficult time.

“This is the time the farmers need us the most so we must help them by providing their most significant farming needs while observing the precautionary measures set by the authorities”, said Minister Yacob.

Assisting the team from MAFAR-BARMM were Municipal Agricultural Officer Akmad Dimacisil, the barangay officials, and the farmer-leaders who also requested for fertilizer support.

Sixty bags of OPV corn seeds were also delivered for the farmers in Meti, Datu Blah Sinsuat via Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, in response to their request.
