FIRST EVER PLANTING FESTIVAL AMAZES FARMERS IN LANAO DEL SUR
Hundreds of farmers from five municipalities in the Province of Lanao del Sur actively participated in the first ever Rice Planting Festival held in Barangay Bansayan, Poona-Bayanao on August 4, 2020.
They witnessed and appreciated the recommended and modern method of planting rice that featured the use of walk-behind rice transplanter.
The activity was also highlighted by the exciting planting race that showcased fast yet proper way of transplanting that ensures straight rows, spaces in between, and the right number of seedlings per hill.
“This festival aims to showcase the different methods of planting rice for our farmers to gain more knowledge on the good use of technology in planting rice for increased production,” said Pangalian A. Balindong Jr., Provincial Head of the MAFAR-Lanao del Sur.
Meanwhile, Ammal D. Solaiman, Assistant for the Minister for PPME, represented the MAFAR Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob. She witnessed and participated in the ceremonial planting with the other officials from the MAFAR and the farmers.
Ditucalan said the festival encourages the local farmers to practice new and effective technologies in planting rice with the aim of making Lanao del Sur a rice-sufficient province in response to the call of the BARMM Chief Minister for the attainment of Rice Sufficiency in the Bangsamoro Region.
The participating farmers came from the municipalities of Taraka, Mulondo, Lumba Bayabao, Poona Bayabao, and Masiu and are expected to witness the Harvest Festival that is possibly conducted few months after.
