The Hadji Muhtamad Marine Protected Area, a 24-hectare fish sanctuary, was demarcated last June 14, 2021, through the collaborative efforts of the FishCORAL Project in BARMM, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Hadji Muhtamad, the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Lubukan, and the identified fisherfolk beneficiaries.

The project had already distributed and installed one hundred forty-five (145) units of FS markers in three (3) identified existing Marine Protected Areas in the Province.

Furthermore, The deployment and installation of FS marker is under the coastal resources management (CRM) component of the FishCORAL Project which aims to delineate the existing marine protected area in the municipality. It also aims to raise awareness among locals about the importance of fish sanctuary in enhancing and producing fish stocks in the area.

The Fish Sanctuary is a form of marine protected area where no fishing is allowed to ensure that fish and other marine species have the opportunity to grow and breed.
