HARVEST FEST IN MAMASAPANO SHOWCASES HIGH YIELD OF INBRED RICE

The harvest festival in Manungkaling, Mamasapano, Maguindanao, today (September 15, 2020) attended by hundreds of farmers, government officials, and media personalities, recorded an average yield per hectare of almost 10 tons from the variety NSIC Rc222 planted in 79-hectare seed production farm.

The ceremony of harvesting was led by MAFAR Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob, assisted by MAFAR-Maguindanao Provincial Head Abdulnasser K. Badawi, Assistant to the Minister for Operations Engr. Ismail A. Guiamel, Regional Rice and Seed Focal Person Tong A. Abas, MAFAR-Maguindanao Operations Officer Dr Ronjamin M. Maulana, MAFAR Municipal Officer (MMO) Dr Modrika A. Masukat, and representatives from the Local Government Unit headed by Secretary to the Mayor Roger Gornez.

Aside from the seed production site in the village, a 100-hectare model farm was also established in the area designed to showcase modern technologies in rice production.

Minister Yacob reiterated that the purpose of the activity that is the fifth in the province and seventh including those conducted in Lanao del Sur, is to celebrate with the farmers with their bountiful harvest in rice and to motivate them further to keep improving with the use of the modern and proven effective technologies that were showcased by the model farms.

The MAFAR chief reminded the farmers that they are considered partners of the ministry and the whole BARMM government in enhancing the economic status of the region.

Tong A. Abas, Regional Officer-In-Charge for Agricultural Services and Rice and Seed Focal Person, stated that the activity is conducted to manifest that the interventions from the ministry is well implemented by the farmer-partners and that they reap the benefits of the programs.

The activity showcased the efficiency of combine harvester that was operated by Minister Yacob himself, with the other officials and farmer leader Rahib Mamaluba.
