MAFAR Aquaculturist undergo capacity enhancement training on fish feed formulation, feeding management

COTABATO CITY- To further expand and cultivate the participants’ knowledge, 30 Aquaculturist of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform underwent a five-day training on Fish Feed formulation and feeding management from May 30 to June 3.

OIC Chief Production Division Norhainnie A. Pendulat Production Division led the activity. It was attended by the personnel in aquaculture, multi-species hatcheries, Research and Development, and regional and provincial offices.

The participants are expected to gain skills in fish feed formulation and feeding management and enhance their knowledge. Also, the application of advanced and appropriate technology to improve fish production of fisherfolks engaged in aquaculture.

In his message, Dr. Macmod D. Mamalangkap, Director II for Fisheries, called the attention of Research and Development participants and urged them to focus on and study the natural resources of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

“Its scope is extensive, so it also has great potential in research and development, where there are many sources of indigenous materials for fish feed formulation ingredients,” he added.

“We need to study; we need to be smart and good,” BDG for Fisheries Pendatun S. Patarasa strongly encouraged the participants because one of the policy directions of MAFAR is to strengthen the capacity of bureaucracy members so that we can serve the Bangsamoro community well.

He also said the training on fish feed formulation and management might be planted in our minds that when we talk about Bangsamoro, we can immediately link it to Halal, which is one of the important programs of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

He also commended the relentless endeavor of the Fisheries divisions for improving every duty assigned to them.

The topics in the said training are as follows: Introduction to tilapia and Bangus biology, Nutrient requirements, Sources and characteristics of feedstuffs, Feed formulation, Practical feeding of tilapia and Bangus, Concept on Feed Formulation, Feeding Management of freshwater and marine finfishes and Basic Response to Fishkill & Fish Mortality. The invited Resource Speakers were Alejandro M. Gonzaga, Jr. MsC, RFT and Jhumar O. Jamis, MsC, RFT, and from MAFAR were Hani Nor, Zaiali Guiamad, Norhaini A. Pendulat, Hayden Akmad, Abdul S. Unggui, and Jarmela Mariga.
