MAFAR conducts Market-Linkages, Value Chain Analysis on Sakurab

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, through the Agribusiness Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) in collaboration with the Philippine Rural Development Program thru the I-Plan, has conducted Market Linkages on High-Value Crops, particularly on Sakurab and Scoping Session cum inception meeting for the cluster-wide Value Chain Analysis (VCA) on July 6-8, 2022 at Harbor Lights, Cagayan de Oro City.

Senior Agriculturist Datu Hamsur J. Zaid, on behalf of AMAD Chief Dr. Tong Pinguiaman, highlighted the activity’s objective; he said the activity aims to address issues and concerns related to Sakurab (white scallion) from input supply and processing to the final consumer.

Also, to help cooperatives, associations, and organizations to be knowledgeable about the quality of the product they would produce, and later increase their income and have effective strategies on market matching and market linkages.

Director II for Agriculture Services Engr. Ismail A. Guiamel emphasized the importance of the Seven Ps of marketing that needs to consider when engaging in marketing, including Product, Price, Place, Promotion, People, Process, and Physical Evidence.

Director Guiamel also encourages the participants to look forward to the other benefits of Sakurab (white scallion) and prioritize its health sources.

The activity showcases the presentation of the different topics, including Background of the Industry, Value Chain Mapping, Market Analysis, Relative Financial Position of VC Players, Market and Market Opportunities, Constraints, and Opportunities Validation which was explained by RPCO BARMM Planning Officers Elsie S. Omandan and Abdeel Rauf P. Tending.

Around 41 individuals attended the said activity, including Provincial Director Atty. Khalid D. Ansano, Supervising Agriculturist Al-Arief Mangata, OIC MMOs, Sakurab farmers, AMAD personnel, private sectors, and other concerned officials.
