MAFAR HOSTS THE 34TH COCONUT WEEK CELEBRATION, ‘MAFARLENGKE SA BGC’
With the theme “Masaganang Niyugan, Tungo sa Kaginhawaan”, the 34th Coconut Week Celebration started today and is held at the MAFAR Covered Court, Bangsamoro Government Center (BGC), Cotabato City until August 27, 2020.
The three-day activity is particularly titled as Synergy on Regional Coconut Days: Coco Bazaar+MAFARLENGKE+Regional Coconut Industry Stakeholders Forum+Business-to-Business Matching and Business Counselling+Techno Sharing on Coconut-Based Farming System.
Jointly conducted by the Philippine Coconut Authority of the Department of Agriculture (DA-PCA), the MAFAR, and the MTIT, the program was opened today and was highlighted by the official introduction of the exhibitors of different coco-based food and non-food products, and other agricultural commodities from vegetables, rice, and fish, to processed oil, and snacks.
MAFAR Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob welcomed all the delegates and officials to the activity and emphasized the significance of coconut as it ts the ‘tree of life’ and the need to support the growers as they play a huge role in advancing the agriculture and economic sectors of the Bangsamoro. He then encouraged the growers to become entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, PCA-BARMM Regional Manager Marina B. Wahab, CSEE opened the program by encouraging all to actively do their share in reducing poverty through collaboration and cooperation. She also stressed the strength of coconut producers as they comprise one-fourth of the population and cover three-fourth of the total agricultural area in the region.
BARMM Interim Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim, Al-Hadj served as the keynote speaker of the program and delivered his encouraging and inspiring message on video.
