MAFAR MAKES CORN SEEDS READY FOR FARMERS TO PLANT

After receiving official request from a group of farmers, the MAFAR responded and delivered today (April 27, 2020), 81 bags of open pollinated variety (OPV) corn seeds in Dunguan, Aleosan, North Cotabato.

A letter of intent was sent by Morphy K. Suga, Farmer Leader and Barangay Councilor at the Community that said the seeds are for Sitios Dunguan Proper, Manili, and Bobonaw, in preparation for the upcoming wetland (gawang) season.

Dunguan is one of the two barangays in Aleosan that was included in the 63 barangays of North Cotabato that are now officially under BARMM after they voted yes for inclusion and were officially turned over to the Bangsamoro Region on November 20, 2019.

According to Dr Macmod D. Mamalangkap, MAFAR Coordinator for the 63 Barangays, the ministry shall be pouring assistance to the farmers and other clienteles in the villages, now that they are part of the BARMM.

This follows the directives of Minister Mohammad S. Yacob that include ensuring the continued delivery and distribution of assistance to the communities despite the prevailing crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is the time they (farmers and fishers) need us the most so we must help them by providing their most significant farming needs with conformity to the recommended precautionary measures”, said Minister Yacob.

Today’s activity was led by Akmad A. Abdullah, MAFAR Corn Program Focal Person in close collaboration with Dr Mamalangkap and the assistance of former Agricultural Extension Worker Basit Minandang and Corn Program Staff Fahmi Acob.
