MAFAR meets SEAFDEC towards sustainable fisheries development in BARMM

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform Director-General Pendatun Patarasa meet Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) Chief Dan Baliao in Tigbauan, Iloilo.

On June 6, the meeting aimed to foster partnerships on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development to boost the fisheries industry in the Bangsamoro region.

Chief Baliao said that the center is willing to help the Bangsamoro region improve its fisheries and aquaculture by developing its hatcheries for prioritized commodities, feed formulation, and R&D that is adaptable to the fisherfolk.

Moreover, as one of the Ministry’s policy directions on strengthening staff capacity building, technical staff from the Fisheries Production Division, led by OIC Chief Norhainie Pendulat under the supervision of Director II Macmod Mamalangkap, Ph.D. as well as Provincial Staff from Basilan and Maguindanao undergoing Training on Mangrove Hatchery Operation and Management for June 6-24, 2022.

The training aims to provide technical knowledge and skills in the hatchery of mangrove crab for sustainable livelihood and employment generation, specifically to learn the basic principle of hatchery operation and be able to produce crablets, also to understand its culture enterprise management.
