MANGO FARMERS UNDERGO TRAINING ON MANGO FLOWERING INDUCTION FOR THE FIRST TIME
“We lack the technology and we never knew the proper management for our mango plantation”, the testimony given by one of the farmer participants to the training on mango flowering induction in Brgy. Libungan Torreta in Pigcawayan North Cotabato on June 18, 2020.
More than fifty (50) farmers in the said place participated the training to learn additional knowledge on mango production. The barangay is one of the 12 barangays of Pigcawayan that are included in the 63 barangays of North Cotabato that voted ‘yes’ for inclusion to the Bangsamoro government.
According to the MAFAR focal person for the 63 barangays Dr. Macmod S. Mamalangkap, the training was designed to motivate and inspire the farmers in the remote area by providing them the program they needed and by conforming to the advocacy of the Bangsamoro government of bringing the services or the government itself closer to the community.
Meanwhile, Consultant for Agriculture Concerns Dr. Jalika D. Mangacop, mentioned that all the efforts of the MAFAR officials, on behalf of Minister Mohammad S.Yacob, have the objective of upgrading the economic status and life of the farmers.
The training was highlighted by the delivery of lectures from Dr. Mangacop on Mango Production and from HVCDP Focal Person Ramil M. Timpolok on Pest and Diseases.
After listening attentively to the hours of lectures and after their queries were properly addressed, the farmers felt lucky and thankful for the additional knowledge they acquired.
In the testimony given by farmer participant Halil Mustapha, he emotionally declared that throughout the years of being a farmer, it was the first time in their area that they encountered officials who were sincere and willing to share knowledge despite their hectic schedules. “Thank you for sharing us the information we need. After how many years this is the first time that we are able to join this kind of activity”, Mustapha sincerely uttered.
Other attendees to the training were Consultant for Information Concerns Dr. Kadiguia R. Abdullah, Al-Hadja, Regional P4MP President Datu Yamashita Mangacop, Focal Person of the 12 barangays of Pigcawayan Theng Abdullah and other officials.
The ministry, through the information section, also distributed reading materials about mango production to the participants that will serve as their additional guide to improve their production.
