ORIENTATION ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AREA FOR THE CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT OF FISHERIES IN PHILIPPINE WATERS

Cotabato City- The MAFAR Fisheries Sector conducted an orientation on the Establishment of Fisheries Management Area (FMA) for the Conservation and Management of Fisheries in Philippine waters, spearheded by Dr. Macmod D. Mamalangkap, Director II for Fisheries Services and Mr. Hairodin Arap, Supervising Aquaculturist at the Fisheries Conference Room, MAFAR compound, Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

MAFAR Minister Mohammad S. Yacob expressed his gratefulness and pleasure from the neighboring region, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR XII) for their collaborative effort and support especially during this transition period and to share their knowledge and expertise in this field.

He reiterated that the prime objective of the Fisheries Sector is the conservation of the fisheries areas and to promote the increase in fisheries production thru the establishment of hatcheries from the mainland Maguindanao and Lanao de Sur up to the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi.

BFAR Region XII concisely discussed the objectives. Fisheries Administrative Order (FAO) 263, series of 2019 is the legal basis for the Establishment of Fisheries Management Areas for the Conservation and Management of the Fisheries in the Philippine Waters.

It ushers a new era of fisheries governance, as it delineates the entire Philippine waters in a management areas for as science-based, participatory and transparent governance framework.

In addition, the Fisheries Staffs encourages everybody to be conscientious and dedicated in rendering their services for the betterment of the Bangsamoro.
