SOUTH UPI FARMERS LEARN TECHNIQUES IN RUBBER PRODUCTION AND TAPPING MANAGEMENT
The MAFAR, through its High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), conducted “Training on Rubber Production and Tapping Management” on July 22, 2020 in Barangay Romongaob, South Upi, Maguindanao.
More than sixty participants, mostly Teduray farmers from the different barangays of South Upi undetook the training and learned modern technologies in rubber production.
The activity aimed to promote and encourage rubber growers to continue engaging in production as nowadays, there has been a market deficit for the supply of rubber.
According to Dr. Jalika D. Mangacop, MAFAR Consultant for Agriculture Concerns, the activity is part of the ministry’s effort to inspire the farmers to become active part of the government programs. “We are here today to impart knowledge regarding the proper management of rubber production that can help you increase your productions” said Dr. Mangacop.
Meanwhile, Romongaob Barangay Chairman Rojin Palma, warmly welcomed the MAFAR team and thanked all the officials for choosing their place as a recipient of the said training.
Former South Upi MAO Luzviminda Niervo said that South Upi has 1,300 hectares existing rubber production area.
To inspire and motivate the farmers, lectures on modern rubber production technology and management were delivered by the resource speakers Hector Da-Anton, Rubber Production Specialist and HVCDP Focal Person Ramil Timpolok on Chemical Information Drive.
Packs of assorted vegetable seeds and IEC materials were distributed by the HVCDP and ICT sectors, respectively.
The activity was also attended by Consultant for Information Concerns Dr. Kadiguia R. Abdullah, Al-Hadja, P4MP President Datu Yamashita Mangacop, OIC MAO Seeham Pangol and other staff from the MAFAR Regional Office.
