UPLAND RICE-BASED FARMING PROGRAM FOR BANGSAMORO, LAUNCHED

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR-BARMM) jointly launched its Upland Rice-Based Farming Technology Transfer for Bangsamoro program held at PhilRice, Bual, Midsayap North Cotabato on January 25, 2021.

Through a simple ceremony, MAFAR Director for agricultural services Engr. Ismail Guiamel and PhilRice Branch Director Sailila Abdula expressed their support for the said program as well as Hirofumi Hoshi, chief advisor of JICA and Katsumata, the program coordinator via zoom.

It will be implemented in barangay Liong and Lipawan in Barira town; barangay Calaan and Oring in Buldon and barangay Bugasan Norte and Langkong in Matanog. A total of 180 farmers from the said three towns participated. The MAFAR Municipal Officer in collaboration with the two extension workers in each town will emulate of the said program for 18 months. They are now undergoing a four-day training on upland rice-based farming at PhilRice.
