two-day Training/Orientation on Coastal Resource Management by the Fisheries Resource Management Division on February 7- 8, 2024.
The activity is a continuous effort of the ministry aimed to educate fisherfolks and BLGUs within the region’s coastal communities on the management and conservation of our coastal ecosystems.
A series of lectures have been discussed with the participants about the significant coastal ecosystems and their functions, the concepts of coastal resources management, and the importance of involving the coastal communities in the planning process up to the implementation level.
During the lecture of Senior Aquaculturists, Honeylou Marcelo emphasized the importance of coastal resources management, specifically to the coastal communities.
She added that a healthy coastal environment can provide enough support for the people’s daily needs: food, livelihood, economic development, clean water, and the clean air we breathe.
Other topics presented include the flagship program of the fisheries sector or the Integrated and Sustainable Development for Aquaculture/Capture (ISDA), Legal Framework for Coastal Resource Management, Coastal Law Enforcement, and Philippine Seas: Status, Management & Threats.
Moreover, the Barangay Chairman of Tabialan, Banguingui, Hon. Adwin A. Imbah, has expressed his immense appreciation to the MAFAR team for the continuous support of MAFAR to his constituents.
The fisherfolk actively participated during the lectures and workshop by sharing what they’ve learned and what they can do to protect and conserve marine resources.
Also, the participants have extended their gratitude to the ministry and the team’s effort to reach their community and provide them with valuable knowledge on marine resources.
