The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform – Philippine Rural Development Project (MAFAR-PRDP) distributed vital seaweed farming inputs and equipment to the Badjao Dilaut Fishermen Cooperative on May 21, 2024, in Barangay Karaha, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi.
Led by Deputy Project Director Ammal D. Solaiman and Fisheries Services Director General Pendatun S. Patarasa, the first tranche of support includes one motorized banca worth PhP88,000, seaweed inputs worth PhP541,805, and 3,300 lines of seaweed seedlings worth PhP1.4 million, funded under the Second Additional Financing with the European Union (AF2-EU) co-financing grant.
Through this initiative, the coop aims to produce and market quality raw dried seaweeds (RDS) at the prevailing market price in Bongao that meets the standards of the Philippine seaweed industry.
Moreover, after completing the first one, the second tranche of support will follow, providing post-harvest equipment to further support the coop’s growth and success.
