The construction of a stilt dryer in the province of Sulu worth Php 2,597,244.98 will soon benefit the local fisherfolk on December 6, 2024.
Beneficiaries are the Buton Seaweed Farmers Association from Barangay Buton, Parang, and the Lapa Seaweed Farmers Association from Barangay Lapa, Maimbung.
Director II Macmod Mamalangkap of Fisheries Operation said, “This project will be constructed in your respective Barangays because MAFAR continues to support the fisherfolk in Sulu in order to uplift their livelihoods of the community.
He said this project will be given to you and it’s your responsibility to sustain the project. This is to address post-harvest losses and improve the grain quality and market value of your harvest.
The Aljareev Construction will construct the 20 x 15 m stilt dryer starting on December 6, 2024, and will be finished on June 3, 2025.
Local Government Unit representative delivered his message and thank MAFAR for the unending support and assistance to Sulu Fisherfolk.
“This project will definitely ease the struggles of fisherfolk in drying their harvest and reduce post-harvest losses and would greatly improve their way of life and productivity,” an LGU representative said.
