DAVAO CITY – To improve the quality and the availability of didactic material on organic agriculture in the region, Agricultural Extension Workers underwent Training on the Manual of Operation in Region BARMM Batch 2.
The Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Services under the Nationally-Funded Program (NFP) of the Ministry of Agriculture. Fisheries and Agrarian Reform led the training on August 5-9, 2024 at Davao City.
This activity helps the core group of the PGS to build knowledge in line with the current Philippine National Standard for Organic Agriculture and craft their manual of operations and internal standards as requirements for the Participatory Guarantee System certification.
Mr. Elias Nayal of Agriculture Training Institute of Region 9, OA Point Person facilitated the training and shared his expertise with the Agricultural Extension Workers.
The participants engaged in hands-on sessions that covered a wide range of topics, including the New Philippine National Standard (PNS) on Organic Agriculture (A0), Alignment of Internal Standards, Development of the Manual of Operation, Accreditation of Core
PGS Group as Organic Certifying Body, Auditing 101 and Module 4: Peer Review and Certification for General Protocols and
Principles.
30 participants which are composed of Agricultural Extension Workers, Provincial Organic Focal, Research Staff under the Organic Agriculture Program, and Regional Organic and Organic practitioners/farmers.
An Agricultural Extension Worker from Tawi-Tawi gave his reflection and said “We would like to thank MAFAR for giving us this kind of opportunity to enhance our knowledge and skills.”
He said this training teaches us the proper techniques and practices for various manual tasks involve in farming activities.
