The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform through the Special Development Fund, undertook a significant initiative by organizing the turnover of a Solar-Powered Irrigation System aimed at supporting agricultural productivity in Bubong-Ramain, Bubong, Lanao del Sur, on September 4, 2024.
The ceremonial event was led by MAFAR-SDF Program Officer Engr. Najib B. Usman, along with project engineers, in collaboration with the SDF Project Management Office, represented by Engineer II Amer Magandia.
This advanced irrigation system is designed to harness solar energy to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply to local farmers. It comprises a sump pump room, a control room, main tanks, a sub-tank, and 16 solar panels enclosed with a fence.
Engr. Usman reiterated his hope that the community would properly maintain the project, use it in a Halal manner, and ensure its effectiveness within the community.
“Through the support of our Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., this event has been made possible,” he added, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the implementation of this project.
Meanwhile, Engr. Magandia emphasized that the success of these projects is due to the dedication of the Bangsamoro Government, led by Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim, Al-Hajj.
“This turnover is not just about the transfer of the physical components of the project but also about the transfer of responsibility, which is beneficial to the community for its sustainability,” he added.
By utilizing renewable energy, the project aims to ensure efficient water management, increase crop yields, and reduce dependence on conventional irrigation methods that rely on electricity.
The farmer’s cooperative in the area expressed their sincere gratitude to the BARMM government for its collaborative support in implementing the project in their barangay.
Additionally, this initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices, improving infrastructure, and supporting local communities in Lanao del Sur.
The event was also attended by MAFAR Municipal Officer Faisal G. Sarip, Barangay Chairman Yusof Mangondaya, and a representative from AFBE Construction Services.
