DAVAO CITY – Seventeen (17) personnel trained on conducting soil fertility assessment and mapping to empower agricultural communities for a more resilient and agricultural future in the Bangsamoro region.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, through the Integrated Laboratory Division, headed the said activity on April 15-19 at Davao City.
This activity aims to harmonize the protocols on soil fertility assessment and mapping and learn best practices with the Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM) of the Department of Agriculture.
Chemist III Asmat B. Alim, Rch, MPA said this training is a cornerstone of the establishment of the Bangsamoro Agricultural Soil Information System (BASIS), which marks the journey of the soil resources that hold the key to agricultural prosperity and environmental sustainability in the Bangsamoro region.”
He said by investing in BASIS, we are not gathering data, but we are cultivating a footprint for sustainable development on our soil’s potential implementation.
During the training proper, Bureau of Soil and Water Management facilitated the activity focusing on Protocol on Soil Sample Collection for Soil Fertility Assessment, Determination of Sampling Points for Fertility Assessment and Mapping, Protocol on Soil Sample Collection for Soil Fertility Assessment, Soil Analysis and Fertilizer Computation: A Key to Soil Nutrient Management, Data Management and Soil Fertility Map Generation, Map Lay outing, Guidelines on Soil Profile Description, and Soil Suitability Classification, Evaluation and Mapping.
