The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, including the Japan Embassy, IC Net, and Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion (SHEP) of the Capacity Development Project for Bangsamoro (CDPB), conducted a Training of Trainers (TOT) on the safe and effective use of pesticides at BARMMIAFRC.
On March 04, 2024, at least eight participants from various cooperatives in the Municipality of Barira and Matanog, Maguindanao del Norte.
Led by Tong Abas, Director II for Research and Extension Development, alongside Ramil Timpolok, Senior Agriculturist, to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge on pesticide handling.
In his message, Director Abas conveyed gratitude to the partner agencies for their collaborative efforts in conducting the training.
“This SHEP project is essential for our farmers, especially those high-value vegetable farmers,” he emphasized.
“We can proudly showcase its output in BARMM,” he underscored, addressing how this project would significantly impact the farmers since it also focuses on meeting market demands, which will sustain them in their future needs.
SHEP conducts sensitization workshops and market surveys as part of its activities. This approach is integral to agricultural extension efforts, providing concrete solutions for fundamental issues in agricultural extension.
During the training, Ramil Timpolok shared expertise on safe and effective pesticide use, covering topics such as chemical control in crops and proper handling techniques.
He also encouraged participants to consult ministry officials regarding any concerns promptly.
Meanwhile, Supervising Agriculturist Samira Udtong urged participants to share their newfound knowledge with others in their communities, underscoring the importance of the training, especially concerning pesticide handling.
Furthermore, media outlets, including GMA Regional TV, The Philippine STAR, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, and Manila Broadcasting Company (DZRH), were present to demonstrate support and advocate for the transformative partnership between MAFAR and JICA.
