To better equip farmers with the proper techniques for corn cultivation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), through the Special Development Fund (SDF), organized a two-day training session for the farmer cooperatives in in Barangay Amai Didtimbang Balindong, Masiu, Lanao del Sur on August 13-14, 2024.
The training focused on corn and high-value crop management, with MAFAR-BARMM Corn Focal Akmad Abdullah serving as the resource speaker. He shared his expertise on various topics, including land preparation, seed selection, effective planting techniques, fertilization, and pest protection.
“This training is a crucial step towards enhancing corn production in our community. We are grateful for the opportunity given to our farmers to improve their skills in corn cultivation,” said Omar Magandia, a Barangay Official from Amai Didtimbang Balindong.
The training also included sessions on financial literacy and basic bookkeeping, led by Budget Assistant for MAFAR-SDF Amira Guiamad, to help farmers manage their income and operate their cooperatives more effectively.
The same training was also conducted for two famers’ coop including Barangay Ilian Agriculture Marketing Cooperative, and Isang Bangsa Agri Aqua Producers Cooperative on August 14, held at Marawi City.
Mohammad Zackie Abdullatip, Chairman Isang Bangsa Agri Aqua Producers Cooperative, encouraged his fellow farmers to apply the knowledge they gained from the training. “If we want to increase our crop production, we must embrace the modern technologies and methods of farming that are being taught to us,” he stated.
Each participant is expected to receive corn seeds in the coming days as part of the program. Such training is part of the preparation for farmers before they receive the expected seed distribution from MAFAR-SDF.
