ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – In a significant development for the local fishing community, fishermen from Tungawan were granted two essential units of fishing boats with complete accessories from the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Agrarian Reform – Special Development Fund (MAFAR-SDF).
On March 4, the turnover ceremony was led by MAFAR-SDF Program Officer Roslainie A. Mamalaguia, MAPDS, joined by the Inspectorate team, COA, and the SDF Project Management Office.
The fishing boats, measuring 65 feet with a powerful 120 hp Marine Engine, and three out trigger boat supports during the operation, were officially handed over to Shuaib A. Edris.
Edris, a former combatant turned president of the One-Thirteen Agri-business and Merchandising Agriculture Cooperative, expressed profound gratitude for this life-changing support.
“These interventions from the Bangsamoro Government will benefit thousands of former combatant members,” Edris stated. He also emphasized the immense impact these boats will have on their livelihoods, describing the assistance as a “huge help for our livelihoods.”
With the additional capacity provided by these boats, local fishermen can now venture further into the sea with confidence, ensuring not just their own sustenance but also contributing to the local economy. The boats are equipped with a range of accessories, including a light bulb, modified generators, and other essentials for electricity during operations, further enhancing their efficiency and safety.
The fishermen of Tungawan are looking forward to utilizing these new boats to further their livelihoods, contributing to the economic growth and sustainability of their community.
