MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform- Special Development Fund led the groundbreaking ceremony of the MAFARLENGKE Trading Center which will market the goods produced by the local farmers and fisherfolk.
On October 9, 2024, Director General for Agrarian Reform Taugan S. Kikay, Ph.D., MAFAR Consultant Daud K. Lagasi, Ph.D., together with MAFAR- SDF personnel and Local Government Unit led the ceremonial groundbreaking at Barangay Masigay, Datu Piang.
The MAFARLENGKE Trading Center aims to support the value chain program and uplift the livelihoods of local farmers in Datu Piang.
Consultant Lagasi said, “Through the leadership of our Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., we are truly committed to giving projects to our farmers, fisherfolk, and agrarian reform beneficiaries to use it to generate income.
He said this will be the best way for the farmers to sell their produce and everyone in the community will benefit. Highlighting the convenience and efficiency the trading center will bring to agricultural trade in the area.
Apart from better market access for local farmers and producers, beneficiaries of the project accepted it and looked forward to sustainable, productive ways of drying agricultural produce.
Meanwhile, DG Kikay said “Under the leadership of our Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, Al-Haj, the Bangsamoro Government stood since 2019. Through the peace process, the national office is our partner in the development and everyone will have access to form of livelihood.”
He said that people in Barangay Masigay are mostly farmers and this MAFARLENGKE trading center would greatly benefit them and strengthen the value chain.
Also, Honorable Municipal Councilor Datu Harris Tang Kasim of Datu Piang Municipality thanked the MAFAR-SDF for constructing the trading center at Barangay Masigay, Datu Piang.
This infrastructure will not only benefit the Barangay but also the Municipality of Datu Piang. Your continued support to our farmers and fisherfolk also strengthens our community’s economy, he added.
