Five cooperatives and associations from municipalities of Sulu received essential fisheries post-harvest equipment from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) under the Special Development Fund from August 23 to 28, 2024.
The Central Sulu National Guard Front Fishermen Cooperative, Ijinullah Fishermen Cooperative, Bangsamoro Suluans Agri-Fishing Association, and Pandami Agri-Marine Producer Cooperative each received 20 ice chests, 15 table-top weighing scales, 20 fish bins, 2 mechanical hanging scales, 25 fish crates, and 2 fish stalls with weighing scales. Meanwhile, the Paarul Banguingui Fishermen Cooperative received 10 units of payao and similar post-harvest equipment.
This equipment will significantly improve the handling, storage, and sale of fish, ensuring better quality and reducing losses. By providing these resources, MAFAR aims to enhance the cooperatives’ productivity and income, contributing to more sustainable livelihoods for the fishing communities in Sulu.
Following the turnover, the beneficiaries also underwent training on cassava and banana production and management, further broadening their agricultural skills and opportunities.
