SULU – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform together with the Local Government Unit of Jolo and Mindanao State University- Sulu led the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of ice block maker and rehabilitation of community fish landing center in Chinese Pier, Jolo on December 6.
In his speech, Director Macmod Mamalangkap, Ph.D., said “the ministry prioritizes the immediate needs of the fisherfolk in the Bangsamoro region.
He said MAFAR is mandated to support the farmers, fisherfolk, and agrarian reform beneficiaries and it is the reason we are here to formally start the construction of the facilities to address post-harvest losses and help to preserve your products.
“I hope the beneficiaries will sustain this project since this will boost your income and productivity,” he added.
The ice block maker will rise in Sulu province and also in Tawi-Tawi and Basilan worth Php 15,840,000.00. While the rehabilitation of CFLC is worth Php 1,400,788.12.
The representative of the Mayor of Jolo said that the project would surely benefit the Sulu fisherfolk and thanked MAFAR for continuing to support the beneficiaries. Also, he reminded the fisherfolk to maintain and take care of the facilities.
The facility is set to become operational next year first quarter for the ice block maker while the newly rehabilitated CFLC is in the second quarter and benefitted from the Public Market Fisherfolk Association.
