MALAYSIA – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform participated in the 2024 Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Strategic Planning Meeting (SPM) held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on March 12-14.
For this year’s SPM, it had centered on the review of the BIMP-EAGA Rolling Pipeline of Projects (RPoP) for 2023-2025, the identification of deliverables for 2024, the preparation of implementation plan as well as the identification of subregional convergence projects.
From the Philippines delegation, the enrolled projects were the Development of Premium Quality Rice, Cattle Development, Coconut Production in Smallholder Farmers, and Halal Agribusiness Industry Development Program.
On the other hand, the ongoing agro-industry cluster convergence project is the Agro-Supply Chain Management (ASCM) in BIMP-EAGA through Farm Konekt. The new enrolled project is the Empowering Youth in Agriculture and Fisheries.
Under the Fisheries Cluster, the projects were the following: Intensification of Seaweed Production and Establishment of Common Service Post-Harvest facility for small-scale farmers, Shrimp Production and Post-Harvest Improvement and Emerging Market and Capability Building Initiative and Sustainable Use of Mangrove Ecosystem for Tourism and Silvofisheries.
Also, the MAFAR-BARMM delegation is Director II for Fisheries Services Macmod Mamalangkap, Ph.D., Senior Agriculturist for Halal Engr. Saidona Lawan and AMAD Chief Agriculturist Datu Hamsur J. Zaid.
