The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), through its Fisheries Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division (FRLED), participated in the 2nd Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Training held at the Fisheries Law Enforcement Training School in Pagbilao, Quezon, from May 5-18, 2024.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Central Office conducted the training to improve the skills of Fishery Law Enforcers in properly visiting, boarding, searching, and seizing vessels. This training ensures compliance with international regulations known as the Port State Measure Agreement (PSMA).
With these enhanced skills, MAFAR Fishery Law Enforcers are better equipped to protect the Bangsamoro region’s waters, ensuring that fishing practices are legal and sustainable. By following proper procedures, MAFAR aims to combat illegal fishing and safeguard the livelihoods of local fisherfolk.
