TAWI-TAWI – A 2-day training session on corn production was held in Barangay Putat, South Ubian, to equip 30 farmers with the knowledge and skills to enhance their farming practices. The training which took place on November 15-16, 2024, focused on improving crop yields, adopting modern techniques, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of corn farming in the province.
The purpose of the training was to address key challenges in corn production, including pest control, soil management, and maximizing yield. By promoting the adoption of sustainable farming methods, the session aimed to empower local farmers with practical tools and strategies to improve their productivity.
Miralam Baslani, MAFAR Municipal Officer (MMO) of South Ubian, emphasized the importance of the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) in ensuring that farmers receive the necessary resources and support. He also acknowledged the continued assistance of MAFAR Tawi-Tawi in advancing agricultural programs in the municipality.
Barangay Kagawad Darwisa Tahamil reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity within the community.
The training was led by Daisy Domingo, Agriculturist I, Crop Production and Management Section Focal, who provided practical guidance on effective corn management and modern farming techniques tailored to local conditions.
Bibbong Bernabi, Agri Tech and Abdusaip Esoy, ARPT, concluded the training by summarizing the key takeaways and encouraging participants to implement what they learned in their farming practices. His remarks focused on the importance of applying sustainable techniques to achieve long-term success in corn production.
At the end of the training, each participant received a farmer’s hat and a hand trowel, further motivating them to apply what they learned to their farming practices. This initiative reflects the South Ubian local government’s commitment to empowering farmers and ensuring the future of sustainable agriculture in the community.
