The Research, Development, and Extension Services (RDE) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) in the Bangsamoro region conducted Participatory Performance Testing and Validation (PPTV).
This PPTV became a rice planting festival for the project “Accelerating the Development and Adoption of Next-Generation Rice Varieties for the Major Ecosystems in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)” at Barangay Indatuan, Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao del Norte.
Director II for RDE Services Tong A. Abas orient the participant about the planting session and stated the project’s importance and how it will positively affect the community in the future.
The project aims to showcase planting methods, evaluate rice varieties’ performance, and engage farmers in participatory research for sustainable crop improvement.
The first stage, planting rice seedlings to showcase planting methods, was done on May 9, 2024.
MAFAR Municipal Officer, the Barangay Captain of Brgy. Indatuan and the RDE Staff are very hopeful for the continuation of the project as it will help the community decide on what rice variety will suit their area and what variety gives the most positive impression when it comes to taste and quality to improve their yields.
