BASILAN | November 10-12, 2024 – The Regional Project Coordination Office of BARMM (RPCO-BARMM), in partnership with a Technical Service Provider (TSP), conducted a series of Training Needs Assessments (TNA) and Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP) studies for the Ancestral Domain members.
The initiative was part of the Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP), aimed at promoting sustainable development in the region. The workshop featured Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) targeting diverse sectoral groups, including tribal leaders, women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and solo parents.
The activity, spearheaded by Mr. Les Sakiron and facilitated by RPCO-BARMM Component 1, utilized survey tools to systematically assess the community’s strengths and areas for improvement.
The assessments revealed that while the Sama Bangingi community possesses a strong foundation in indigenous practices, there are marked gaps in modern agricultural techniques, financial literacy, and sustainable resource management. Sector-specific needs, such as leadership skills, gender-sensitive approaches, and social mobilization, were also identified as critical areas for capacity-building.
The workshops provided a platform for community members to voice their priorities, resulting in valuable insights that will guide future training initiatives. Customized programs addressing these needs are expected to enhance community members’ ability to actively participate in and sustain development projects, contributing to improved livelihoods and overall well-being.
This collaborative effort between RPCO-BARMM and the Technical Service Provider The collaboration between RPCO-BARMM and the Technical Service Provider has successfully laid the groundwork for a more inclusive and effective development strategy that aligns with the community’s priorities and contributes to their overall well-being.
