The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform – Philippine Rural Development Project (MAFAR-PRDP) distributed various packages of seaweed farming inputs and equipment for the three seaweed farming cooperatives on June 26-27, 2024, in Tandubas, Tawi-Tawi.
The three cooperatives, including Tongbangkaw Seaweeds Farmers and Fisherfolks Producer Coop, Parhimpunan Karandahan Kepeng Producer Coop, and Magdaraing Ma Barangay Kepeng Producer Coop, received essential items such as propagules, motorized banca, floaters, goggles, gloves, stakes, nylon, bolos, and knives.
This assistance is part of the first tranche of support under the Seaweeds Production and Marketing Enterprise subproject of the Investment for the Rural Enterprise for Agriculture and Fisheries Productivity (I-REAP) component.
Funded under the Second Additional Financing with the European Union (AF2-EU) co-financing grant, this support aims to provide necessary resources to boost the productivity and profitability of these PGs, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for the local fisherfolk in the community.
With the first tranche of support, these cooperatives can now start and expand their seaweed farming operations.
