MAFAR deploys coral nursery units in LDS

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform continues its conservation efforts through the conduct of coral transplantation in the deployed coral nursery units (CNU) in Brgy. Banago, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur.

As part of the ministry’s initiatives to protect and conserve its marine resource, the project aimed to restore the degraded coral reefs in some identified areas of the region on June 1-3, 2022.

A total of 11 units of CNU were deployed and transplanted with coral fragments or coral of opportunities (COPs) collected near the site.

The activity was conducted by the Fisheries Resource Management Division (FRMD) and Fishery Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division (FRLED) with the active support and assistance of the Barangay Officials of Banago, MAFAR Province of Lanao del Sur, and Balabagan (MMO, AgriTech and Farmworker).

In addition, another deployment of CNUs will be conducted in Bongo Island, Parang, and Maguindanao within the quarter of this year.
