MAFAR personnel equips with quarantine, surveillance protocols for animal diseases

COTABATO CITY- 32 technical personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform region-wide underwent Training on Quarantine and Surveillance Protocols for Animal Diseases at Pagana Kutawato Restaurant.

 On October 25-26, Director II of Agriculture Research and Regulatory Services Jamer M. Guimba, II, and Dr. Raheima A, Mangindra, OIC Chief, RRD, led the activity.

The training aims to strengthen the capability/capacity and resources of MAFAR, especially the human resources, because it serves the Bangsamoro people at the grassroots level by bringing in services in the form of technical assistance by teaching them technologies that will enhance their knowledge for the sake of agriculture and prevention of any occurrence of pests and animal disease. 

Dr. Raheima A. Mangindra, in her welcome message, extends her deep appreciation for the presence of each one, especially the two on-the-job training senior students from the office of the Cotabato City Veterinary Office and gladly encouraged them to pursue a course in the field of veterinary medicine.

Director Guimba lauded the distinguished guests and said, “I am very grateful for the strong commitment and valuable support of the national government to us, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region In Muslim Mindanao, thru their presence in our two-day training and shared their knowledge and expertise by being our Resource Speakers as well as our august bevy of veterinary doctors from Sulu, Lanao del Sur, City of Cotabato Veterinary Office and Provincial Veterinary Office of Maguindanao and OIC Chief of the National Veterinary Quarantine Services, BARMM.

“Seeing our region as having high potential to help develop as well as an opportunity to interact and to deliver services to our people because this administration is still new and the structure in the field of Quarantine is not yet complete, especially in the island provinces that is why we need this capacity training,” he added.

He said we should be partners and help each other to combat this battle for animal diseases.

Some of the relevant topics that were presented and discussed are: Quarantine Measures and Regulation of Animal Movement during outbreaks, Philippine Avian Influenza Status, Foot and Mouth Disease, AI and FMD Surveillance, Disease Investigation and Reporting Outbreak Management and Recovery, Donning and Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment, Hands-on Blood and Swab Collection for Avian Influenza and African Swine Fever Philippine ASF Status, ASF Surveillance, Outbreak Management, and Recovery.
