JAPONICA RICE, PRODUCED IN BULDON

A lady farmer in Macalian, Buldon has been successful in growing Japonica Rice.

Japonica rice (O. sativa subsp. japonica), is also called sinica rice. It is commonly and widely grown in Japan, Korea, and China.

Compared with the indica rice with long and thin grains, Japonica rice has rounder, thicker, and harder grains. As to eating quality, it is also stickier due to the higher content of amylopectin, whereas indica rice starch consists of less amylopectin and more amylose.

The production of this rice in Buldon was made possible under the Rice Program of the MAFAR through which, harvest festival was conducted in the village yesterday, June 16, 2020 with the leadership of Focal Person Tong A. Abas.
