BARMM CM, REPRESENTED BY MAFAR MINISTER IN MEDIATION CONFERENCE IN TURKEY

On behalf of BARMM Interim Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, Al-Hadj, MAFAR Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob, as the Bangsamoro Region’s envoy, attended the 6th Istanbul Mediation Conference in Turkey on October 31, 2019.
 
Being one of the main elements of Enterprising and Humanitarian foreign policy, Turkey has been holding mediation conferences to raise consciousness and build capacity for mediation.
 
With the theme “International Peace Mediation: Taking Stock and Looking Ahead”, the conference was conducted by Turkey with the active participation of H.E. Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, and the members of the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation (HLAB).
 
Secretary General Guterres was received by H.E. Foreign Affairs Minister Çavuşoğlu.
 
Minister Yacob said, aside from the meaningful opening messages from Minister Çavuşoğlu and Secretary General Guterres, the conference was highlighted by sessions on “The Role of Regional/International Organizations in Peace and Mediation”, “The State of Mediation and Conflict Prevention Today: A Facilitation Discussion with the Members of the UN HLAB, and “Emerging Technologies and Peace Efforts”.
 
Having gained genial accommodation and reception from the Turkish government and conference organizers, Minister Yacob was grateful for the experience and for the opportunity to represent the BARMM in such notable conference. He said the insights he obtained from the conference can be beneficial inputs in BARMM’s quest to attain lasting peace and development for the Bangsamoro.
 
Other significant delegates to the mediation conference from the Philippines were Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, Member of the United Nations Standby Team of Mediation Experts, H.E. Raul S. Hernandez, Philippine Ambassador to Turkey, and Enrique Voltaire G. Pingol, Philippine Consul General in Ankara.
