BARMM, REGION XII, PARTICIPATES IN THE FOOD VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT TRAINING THROUGH JICA’S KCCP

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, composed of personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT), and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Region 12 had participated in the food value chain development training in Japan.

The month-long training of Promotion of Food Value Chain for community-based Agribusiness under the Japan International Cooperation Agency – Knowledge and Co-creation Program (JICA-KCCP).

The said training course was conducted from November 1 – December 8, 2023, and undertaken at the Kochi Prefecture in Japan in close collaboration with the Kochi University and private companies.

The training course is focused on understanding the overview of food value chain development and the concept called “Sixth Industrialization” by taking the practice and strategy of the Kochi prefecture in Japan. Also, a learning experience on the good examples of food value chain development in their country and Kochi.

A total of 21 participants came from the African continent, Europe and the Middle East, Asia, and Southeast Asian countries, and the Caribbean had participated.

These include the local government in Kochi Prefecture, the food business creator of Kochi University, and the role of the Japan Agricultural Cooperatives to understand fully the operations of the various Japanese companies and business networking.

Before the graduation ceremony, a presentation of action plans on food value chain promotion for developing community-based agribusiness in various participating countries.

Through the program, Chief Agriculturist of AMAD Datu Hamsur J. Zaid presented the organic rice value chain development of Bangsamoro.

He noted the importance of the value chain analyses of the priority commodities of the region.

Lastly, Chief Trade Industry Development Specialist (CTIDS) Timhar Tiplahan of MTIT Sulu focused his action plan on local mango juice and puree processing in the Province, and Training Center Superintendent II/Chief Fisheries Production and Support division Omar Sabal of BFAR 12 centered his action plans on tuna-based snack food.
