CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF FISHERY RULES AND REGULATIONS AND LICENSING

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform conducted a consultative meeting on the Implementation of Fishery Regulations and Licensing under Fisheries Administrative Order 198-1 and 197-1 at the MAFAR Provincial Office of Tawi-Tawi, May 18, 2021.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Marina, and MMOs of municipalities, together with the presence of the Provincial Head of MAFAR Tawi-Tawi, Aidarus I. Nami, Ed.D., Rudy S. Canizares, RFT, and LTCOL Gaylord P. Tamayo, the Unit Commander of the 1st Special Operation Unit of the PNP Maritime Group are present in the consultative meeting.

The Fisheries Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division of the MAFAR-BARMM highly aims to prevent, lessen, and eliminate illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities to conserve, protect and practice sustainable development of the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources.

Meanwhile, Mr. Norton Aliman, together with Mrs. Bambai M. Lumpingan, both Senior Aquaculturists of MAFAR- Regional Office, discussed and explained the rules and regulations on the registration and licensing of the CFVGL. They also specified the requirements needed to be complied by a registrant for them to successfully attain their licenses in accordance with the legal basis of the Republic Act 8550, which is also known as the “Fisheries Code of 1998” as amended by RA 10654, that will serve and give guidelines to the provincial office, to develop a database of the fishing vessels from the province to the regional office.

The invited parties also had their concerns and current problems discussed. Those fishing vessels were illegally fishing into the province area and those fishing vessels that haven’t secured their licenses.
