FIELD VISIT TO SELECTED FISHCORAL PROJECT SITES IN 3 MUNICIPALITIES OF BASILAN

Monitoring and evaluation of MAFAR-BARMM FishCORAL Project under the Livelihood Component was conducted in [1] Brgy. Buli-Buli, Sumisip (Community-based Fish Processing Facility), [2] Brgy. North Gaunan, Maluso (Marine Finfish Culture in Pen) and [3] Brgy. Matikang, Lantawan (Marine Finfish Culture in Cage) on January 29, 2021.

The activity aimed to monitor and evaluate the status and progress of the livelihood projects provided to the fisherfolk beneficiaries and to also determine the needs of the fisherfolks to improve their livelihood and challenges they’ve encountered on the operation of their project.

The FishCORAL staff interviewed some of the members of the POs to gather information on how the livelihood assistance from the project has helped them as part of the knowledge management activity of the Project.

Mr.Pendatun S. Patarasa, the Asst. to the Minister for Special Concerns as well as the OIC Chief of Fisheries Production also shared some knowledge and techniques on fish pen and fish cage management and operation.

Enhancement training on fish cage and fish pen management will be conducted by FishCORAL in coordination with MAFAR Basilan to help the beneficiaries improve their production.

The Peoples’ Organization representative expresses their gratitude to the MAFAR-BARMM through IFAD Funded FishCORAL Project for the livelihood assistance extended to them.

Harvest of cultured high-value marine finfish is expected in the month of April to May of this year.
