FISHERFOLK ASSOCIATION IN SULU TRAINS IN AQUA BASE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Two fisherfolk associations from Barangay Latih, Patikul, and Barangay Alu-Layag-Layag, Parang Sulu, were trained on Aqua-Based Business School with Gender and Climate Change Perspective (Module 3-4) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform.

The activity aimed to guide the fisherfolk groups toward market-oriented learning and actions increase the fisherfolk group’s understanding of gender-linked opportunities and constraints.

They will also be able to identify and describe key actors and their roles in agricultural and aqua-based market chains, consider climate-related changes to production systems that may influence the prioritization of market opportunities, and develop new business plans by building innovations and maximizing new market opportunities.

During the training, a series of lectures, workshops, market visits, and hands-on demonstrations of identified and prioritized commodities available in their respective areas were carried out.

The lectures were focused on understanding supply, market, and value chain, enterprise/business concepts for small-scale producers, group discussions with the participants, and a presentation on the impact of climate change on the fisheries sector.

Moreover, the participants visited the market to interview the supplier or the producer of their identified commodity. The gathered data were consolidated and presented to understand the market chain of their product.

In addition, the participants are the Babai Gagandilan Producers Association and Batu Itum Services Association and were very thankful to the Ministry for enhancing and helping the fisherfolk of BARMM to improve their products and boost their skills in business.
