LANAO DEL SUR SETS STEP FOR PRDP SCALE-UP THROUGH UPDATING OF PCIP

As part of the preparation for the upcoming implementation of PRDP Scale-Up, the MAFAR-PRDP Regional Project Coordination BARMM conducted a workshop on the Updating of Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP) on September 7, 2023 at Chali Beach Resort and Conference Center, Cagayan De Oro.

The activity was participated by the Local Government Units of Lanao del Sur, including the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDC), MAFAR Lanao del Sur Provincial Office and MAFAR Municipal Officers (MMO).

Atty. Khalid D. Ansano, Provincial Director of MAFAR Lanao del Sur, underscored the critical role of reliable data in preparing the PCIP, which serves as the basis for prioritizing programs and projects.

“The preparation of our commodity investment plan requires reliable data from the grassroots to address the needs of our community, such as farmers and fisherfolks,” PD Ansano stated.

Recognizing the potential development in the living conditions for the local community, Johaena A. Marcom, President of the LDS Local Planners’ League, encouraged participants to broaden their perspective in the preparation of PCIP.

She urged them to consider and emphasize fisheries productivity, particularly for Lake Lanao, which has historically been a significant source of livelihood for the people of Lanao del Sur.

The workshop’s primary focus was to update the PCIP, which contains essential data related to priority commodities in each municipality within Lanao del Sur. This data includes the type of crops grown, the area under cultivation, the number of farmers involved, poverty incidence rates, vulnerability assessments, and suitability criteria.

With the joint efforts of the LGUs, MAFAR Lanao del Sur, and the PRDP, there is a bright outlook for the immediate finalization of the PCIP that will pave the way for subproject approval from the PRDP Scaling Up projects in the coming year.

In his closing remarks, Abdulgaphar L. Sansarona, Chief Agriculturist of MAFAR Lanao del Sur, expressed his full support to fast-track the finalization of the PCIP. He also thanked the LGUs for their active participation and look forward for more subproject approval in Lanao del Sur.
