MAFAR AEWs finish TOT on upland rice production, management practices

MAGUINDANAO- A total of 30 Agricultural Extension Workers from the different provinces of BARMM have undergone training of trainers on upland rice production and management practices at BARMMIARC Training Center, Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, on April 18-22, 2022.

According to Tong A. Abas, Chief Agriculturist and Rice Specialist, the training aims to enhance the knowledge of AEWs, particularly on upland rice production.

He emphasizes the training is significant to the participants as it will serve additional information to AEWs to be shared with the farmers to increase their production and promote the sustainability of rice production in the Region.

Abas also said the training is a joint effort between the ministry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Batch 3 project. JICA will provide a motorcycle unit for each MMO and AT as a primary tool for monitoring activity.

MAFAR Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., recognizes the participants’ presence for their commitment despite the observance of the holy month.

He said this is one way to enhance our support to the farmers to increase their income. The knowledge that you have learned from this training is essential to boost the production of our farmers.

The ministry aims to maximize the area of production and the technology application to our farmers.

“We wish that you would apply and implement all those knowledge and skills that you have to learn and teach our farmers,” Minister Yacob said.

He is committed to supporting the program by providing all the necessary assistance among AEWs for the efficient delivery of services to Bangsamoro beneficiaries.

The participants engage in upland rice production are from Datu Saudi Ampatuan of Maguindanao, Lumbayanague from Lanao del Sur, Talipao of Sulu, and Languyan Municipality of Tawi-Tawi Province.

The training showcases the discussion of a series of topics, including Morphology of the rice plant, Palay Key check 1-8, Orientation on Damage Assessment Form and Planting and Harvesting Report, Establishment of Participatory Technology Demonstration on Farm or Learning Site, and Seed Treatment.
