MAFAR-BARMM EMPOWERS TECHNICAL PERSONNEL THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE EU-FUNDED IORIS TRAINING FOR MARITIME SAFETY AND FISHERIES COORDINATION

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform is continuing to improve its progress as far as capacitating its technical people and has attended the Basic Foundation Course and Advance Course about the Indian Ocean Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) conducted by European Union (EU) CRIMARIO.

On September 04-15, the activity is focused on the Foundation Course and Advance Course at B Hotel Quezon City.

Badrudin D. Sagka, Fishing Regulations Officer II of MAFAR-BARMM, made it one of the eight Philippines members of the IORIS National and Regional Network.

EU-funded project establishing a network for those Government authorities with maritime safety and security and fisheries interests across the Indo-Pacific, focusing on communicating information related to maritime matters and coordination of operations at sea.

This would allow fisheries authorities to create a common operation picture (Live map) with Coast Guard authorities, ashore and at sea so that inspections and interceptions can be conducted efficiently.

In addition, it will also allow fisheries monitoring centers in neighboring countries to collaborate.
