MAFAR BOOSTS AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT IN LANAO DEL SUR WITH P8.2-M SOLAR-POWERED IRRIGATION SYSTEM

LANAO DEL SUR – To boost agricultural development in the Province of Lanao del Sur, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform officially handed over P8.2 million worth of Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) to the Ramain-Bubong Producer Cooperative on December 19.

The comprehensive SPIS project, comprising a Sump Pump Room, Control Room, Main Tanks, Sub Tank, and 16 solar panels enclosed with a protective fence, is a testament to MAFAR’s commitment to modernizing and enhancing agricultural methods. The SPIS can irrigate 11 hectares of farmland, providing the farmers with an eco-friendly and efficient solution for crop cultivation.

Engr. Ghalia Darping, MAFAR-SDF Program Officer, led the turnover ceremony on behalf of Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D. She emphasized the positive impact of the SPIS on local farmers, specifically for the former combatants who engage in agricultural activities.

The Solar Powered Irrigation System is not just a technology upgrade; it’s a commitment to sustainability, productivity, and the well-being of our farming communities.

This project results from collaborative efforts to harness innovative solutions for the farmers. The Solar Powered Irrigation System will empower the Ramain-Bubong Producer Cooperative to maximize their agricultural potential, ensuring the community’s food security and economic resilience.”

As the beneficiary, the Ramain-Bubong Producer Cooperative expressed gratitude for the support received through the MAFAR- Special Development Fund. The SPIS is expected to revolutionize their farming practices, providing a reliable and sustainable water source for their crops.

The turnover ceremony was witnessed by key figures in MAFAR-Lanao del Sur, including Chief Agriculturist Abdul Gaphar Sansarona. Joining him were the representatives from the Local Government Units of Lanao del Sur, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the initiative. Local leaders expressed their support for projects that improve agricultural productivity and promote environmental sustainability.
