MAFAR ENHANCES THE CAMPAIGN ON ILLEGAL FISHING IN MAGUINDANAO

MAGUINDANAO | September 2, 2021

A total of 207 Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGUs) officials and the marginalized fisherfolk have undergone extensive Information Campaign on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF) with emphasis on Electrofishing in 5 Barangays of General Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao.

On September 2, the collaboration of the Fisheries Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division (FRLED) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform conducted the said activity.

The Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance Section of the FRLED led by Mr. Badrudin D. Sagka, Focal Person on Electrofishing, and FRLED- MAFAR Maguindanao Mr. Norton G. Aliman, Senior Aquaculturist.

It aims to eliminate electrofishing activities in Maguindanao Province, particularly in the municipalities along with Liguasan Marsh.

Furthermore, it is also a collaboration with the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces-Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF-MILF) as one of the members of Bantay Liguasan Task Force delegated by the Local Government Unit of GSKP Municipality in enforcing Fisheries Laws.

In the following months, an extensive IEC on electrofishing to all inland bodies of water in the Region will be conducted.
