MAFAR EQUIPS AEWS, FARMER LEADERS IN VALUE CHAIN PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY

Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and farmer leaders received training on Organic Rice Value Chain Production Technology from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform on November 7-10, 2023.

This activity is to equip the AEWs and farmers to extend the knowledge to other agriculture practitioners so that the production process would improve and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the organic rice value chain in the Bangsamoro region.

The four-day training was facilitated by the MAFAR Research Development and Extension Services supervised by its organic focal and Science Research Specialist II Elvie C. Betonio at Go Hotel, Davao City.

Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., thanked the AMAD team for sharing their expertise in value chain production technology and for the participants in attending the training to widen their knowledge and emphasized the importance of the participants in promoting food safety and security.

He urges the participants in doing their part as partners of the ministry in achieving its goal, which is to uplift the economic status of every farmer in the region and to positively change their lives to a better one.

“I encouraged you to actively participate in the training activity and to cooperate, for this will be the start of a dynamic progress that we can contribute to the communities in the Bangsamoro region,” the Minister added.

The 30 participants are composed of Agricultural Extension Workers from the Province of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, Regional Research and Organic Agriculture Staff, and Farm-leaders.

Moreover, Director II for RDE services, Tong A. Abas, expressed his appreciation for the presence of everyone who actively engaged in the training and cooperated during the workshops.

“This will never be as successful as it can be without you attending the event,” Director Abas added.

During the training, the topics discussed were rice value chain production and the current rice value chain in BARMM during the post-harvest season, and marketing strategies.
