MAFAR FishCORAL Project ranks in program implementation

Out of four regions implementing FishCORAL Projects, BARMM placed 2nd in program implementations with an 89% accomplishment rate on the overall weighted physical accomplishment result that served 7,000 fisherfolk in the region. 

Among the FishCORAL projects in support of Coastal Resources was the construction of three Bay Management Building and 20 watchtowers supporting the Local Government Unit (LGU) in protecting their municipal waters.

FishCORAL established coral nursery units and artificial reefs and installed sanctuary markers for existing marine protected areas in the BARMM Region.

23 LGUs received support equipment such as handheld radio, office equipment, and diving gear.

Livelihood Materials were also given by the FishCORAL to fisherfolk engage in seaweed farming, fish culture, fish processing, and aquasilviculture.

On the other hand, 90 stilt dryers, 255 electric and solar chest freezers, 8 processing centers, and 3 seaweed warehouses were successfully turned over to fisherfolk.

Fisheries, Coastal Resources and Livelihood Project (FishCORAL) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform is a 6-year project which started in 2016 funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development that covers 180 coastal barangays in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Sulu.

CARAGA Region got the1st place, followed by the BARMM, Region 8, and 5. The project is expected to end this June 2022.
