MAFAR FISHERIES SERVICES LEADS SUCCESSFUL COASTAL CLEAN-UP FOR FISHERIES CONSERVATION WEEK

To highlight the significance of preserving our marine and aquatic resources, the MAFAR Fisheries Services spearheaded a successful Coastal Clean-Up Drive as part of the celebrations of Fisheries Conservation Week on September 21 at Barangay Kalanganan II, Cotabato City.

Director II for Fisheries Research and Regulatory Services, Mohamadtaha S. Pendaliday, Ph.D. and Chief Aquaculturist Hairudin T. Arap, RFT, led the coastal clean-up which actively participated by the volunteers and residents in a united effort to preserve and protect our marine and aquatic resources.

Coastal clean-ups are pivotal in safeguarding the health of our oceans and marine life. By clearing trash and plastic waste from beaches and seabeds, we mitigate the risks of pollution that can harm aquatic life, disrupt fisheries, and degrade water quality.

Furthermore, MAFAR Fisheries Services also distributed various Information Education Campaign (IEC) materials to participants to empower them to advocate for sustainable fisheries.

Educating the local community about responsible fishing practices and the importance of marine conservation is integral to ensuring the long-term health of our oceans and aquatic resources.

The Celebration of Fisheries Conservation Week is a timely reminder that protecting our marine and aquatic resources is a responsibility and a collective duty that, when embraced, can secure a sustainable future for future generations.
