MAFAR-LGU PARTNERSHIP INTENSIFIES IN RICE PLANTING FESTIVAL IN PANDAG

Farmer Sammy Sapalon rejoiced after winning the rice planting race and receiving Php5000 prize courtesy of the rice sector of the MAFAR and the local government of Pandag through Hon. Mayor Zihan Mamalinta Mangudadatu.

The planting race is an essential part of the Planting Festival under the 50-Hectare Model Farm on Inbred Rice Production in Kabuling, Pandag, Maguindanao conducted today (July 23, 2020).

The planting festival showcased the technology of using high quality rice seeds like that of NSIC Rc222 and the advantage of practicing transplanting in crop establishment that ensures straight rows and recommended spaces between hills for easier crop management.

With its effort to improve the farming practices and productivity of the farmers in the communities especially during this COVID-19 pandemic, the MAFAR has endeavored to speedily provide farm support and technical assistance to the farmers. This is to ensure that they will be able to plant and produce more as part of the directives of Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob.

The ministry strengthens its partnership with the LGUs to make sure that the interventions and projects for the farming families shall be sustained with their assistance.

Hon. Mayor Mangudadatu said that they have secured the area for the model farm as part of the local government’s economic recovery measures during this pandemic. “We attended this activity in full force to show our strong support to this undertaking on agricultural enhancement”, she added.

Meanwhile, MAFAR Regional Rice and Seed Focal Person Tong A. Abas led the ceremonial planting and the race participated by 11 farmers in the locality who all received cash prizes.

He was actively joined by the ABC president Abdulhamid Mangelen, Barangay Chairman Misuari Manibpel, and the farmer-beneficiaries.
